TEAM RAMROD

Some info about our topic-
Our team was formed for the sole purpose of getting an A on this project. We are supposed to investigate social networking and give an overview of the strengths and weakness that come with social networking. We have a combined experience of many years of school and research and are all going for a degree in business. Sadly, all of us use some social network like myspace or facebook. The only advantage to this is over immediate knowledge of what goes on and how these sites are used.
Our team also consists of very knowledgeable and resourceful students that found a lot of information regarding how these sites gain revenue and all the good and bad that surround these sites. The more in-depth one looks the more scary these sites become because one does not know how far these sites will go. The online social networking market is huge in the United States and gives a lot of people jobs and a lot of people the means to keep in touch with their friends and family who no longer live close to them. Social networking sites also give rise to potential cyber crimes and have opened up a whole new way for people to commit plagiarism and steal intellectual property, for example Napster.
What is it we are trying to solve?
Social Networking is a medium of communication that almost every person that has the internet uses. Most sites are free and range anywhere from posting your résumé to finding the love of your life. Our group has been assembled to investigate a few things about social networking websites. The main points we will hit are, what exactly are these sites and why were they created. We will also cover what areas of business use these sites and how these sites generate revenue. The final point we will hit on are the many issues that surround these sites and how the government and people are addressing them.
A few more issues we are trying to solve are how much money is generated from these sites and when does enough become enough. The biggest question that one would have to answer is how long will these sites last and are these sites just a faze or is this something bigger. We live in a fast paced world and sites like these allow us to multitask to a new level, these sites allow me to post my résumé out for multiple people to look at while I download music from i-tunes. In the end, the main issues we are trying to solve is focused around are these sites good or bad, we hope that after you read our report you can come the conclusion on your own.
Solution to our questions-
Social networking sites include misplace, ajcjobs.com, and facebook. These sites are great ways to meet people and lead to many successful relationships. Social networking sites have also allowed people to keep in touch when life gets in the way. Sites like these make money off advertising and contacts with big companies to feature their item on the page for a certain amount of time. These sites are trying to solve many problems that people have, in fact, to many to list here but for more information on this topic feel free to click the formal report link for the full text.
Despite the revenue generating monsters these sites have become they leave our personal information and our self at risk. Most of these sites are loaded with viruses and spyware that disguise themselves as harmless links or downloads. These viruses have the potential of stealing your information and leave your computer open to more viruses. These sites also serve as gateways for online predators to prey on kids and act as hinder in getting a job. A lot of employers are starting to look on these sites for their employees and future employees and will use this as a way to deny them a promotion or a job. Despite all the good these sites create it the bad balances it out.
