VM Operating System

The VM operating system was developed by IBM in the mid-1960’s to create a system that would appear to users as a dedicated machine.  It was designed as a test platform for developing other operating systems and allowed several control programs to operate simultaneously.  It allowed for machines to support current and future releases for systems testing.  The disadvantage to this operating system was the requirement for system programmer expertise for installation and maintenance.
