Term Project - "Frog Crossing" (i.e. "Frogger")
This is the page for my term project -- "Frog Crossing". It's a game that's based off of Frogger. However, rather than blatently 'steal' images from the original Frogger game I decided to "use graphical materials from varied sources for academic use" (ie. most of the sprite images were obtained via google and resized, etc.)
If you never played Frogger, here's a quick run-through (alternatively see the "Intro" page in-game):
You start with five frogs. You must guide each of them across a treacherous highway and dangerous river by controlling the frog. You have to dodge traffic and leap from log to log to reach safety (the red square) on the other side. The catch is that you can only use each safe area once.
Features
- Dynamically Changing Stages - Depending on the stage difficulty you select, the stage will warp to have more or less traffic/water lanes.
- User Settings - The player is allowed to control lots of things about the game -- vehicle/log speed, stage difficulty, even whether or not to display blood if you get the frog run over..
- Hotkeys - There are a wide variety of hotkeys available in-game. If you forget them, then press "F1" for help while in-game to see the list of available hotkeys.
- Cameos - I decided early on that I wanted to be able to play the game with alternative characters. By pressing "Ctrl+[0-9]" you can select from up to 10 different character sprites. Some have their own unique animations and sounds.
- A Hidden Cheat Mode - It wouldn't be hidden if I just told you the code to enter...but I will say that the game must be paused when you enter the code and keep in mind that the original developer was Konami.
