Rainy Day Wines is a moderate-sized winery located in Washington State. Known on the West Coast and a favorite of local tourists, Rainy Day Wines popularity is steadily growing and they wish to expand their business. Rainy Day Wines currently takes phone order sales and can only ship in-state. This is due to state laws that prohibit out-of-state alcohol sales. |

On May 16 2005 the Supreme Court’s ruling stipulated that "states that allow direct sales in-state need to be ‘even-handed’ in their treatment of out-of-state commerce. Consumers in states that prohibit from ordering their wines directly from out-of-state wineries will now be able to do so." Rainy Day Wines needs to improve its existing database to accommodate possible business expansion. They need to move from a ‘phone orders only’ system designed to serve on in-state customers, to a database that can track customers within the continental United States. |
