Internet Security is a major
issue in today's world. There is much money spent and lots of hard work to stop
hackers and other intruders from breaking into places on the net they should not
be. A hacker is a person able to exploit a system or gain unauthorized access
through skill and tactics. Hackers are an especially big issue with large
corporations and online banking sites. Much valuable information is stored on
the internet and must be protected extremely well, otherwise we risk getting our
identity stolen.
Hackers come in many different forms. Some of them
are good and some are bad. The good ones will go into a company and try and hack
into the network, with the knowledge of the company, and then see if he can find
mistakes and "loop-holes" in the network and then he will fix them so other
hackers won't be able to get in.

The biggest problem companies
these days are facing is the security of their networks. Hackers will usually
target big corporations that have valuable information about its customers,
employees, or clients. One thing the hackers will go after is identity
information so they can steal a persons identity and then ruin that persons
credit. Its a huge issue in today's world and can destroy an innocent persons
credit and it can happen to anyone!
Another threat in today's world is the threat of
getting an email virus, or worm. The hacker creates a program that can destroy
ones computer once it is opened and activated. The unsuspecting email recipient
will usually accidentally open the program and then its all down hill from
there. Spyware is also a HUGE problem when surfing the internet. It can slow
down your computer and give you a big hassle when trying to get things done fast
and efficient. Spyware is software that runs on a computer without the explicit
permission of its user. It often gathers private information from a users
computer and sends this data over the Internet back to the software
manufacturer. Adware is also another problem, much like spyware, it runs in the
background of your computer and can significantly slow down your computer. |
.: The Solution:
Possible solution for stopping internet intrusions is
getting a firewall set up. A firewall is a possible solution
to someone with only one computer in their home, or someone
with another need for it. What it can do for you is block
traffic to all except authorized ports on your computer,
thus restricting access. A good firewall can stop spyware
and protect you from intruders and other malicious attacks
from hackers. Adware is software that runs on a computer
without the owner's consent, much like spyware. However,
instead of taking information, it typically runs in the
background and displays random or targetted pop-up
advertisements. In many cases, this slows the computer down
and may also cause software conflicts. Their are many good
programs out there that you can buy and even download for
free sometimes. These programs can be run at least once a
week and can find and delete spyware and adware.
