Georgia State Route 325 (Nottely Dam Road)
Back to Georgia Highway Ends

A road that was rescued from extinction, SR 325 died for nearly a year from 1988 to April 1989.  At the time, GDOT, who was beginning to wind down after a feverish era of turning roads back to the counties, intended that when the new US 76 (now also GA 515) opened that the old US 76 and GA 325 would both be turned over to Union County as part of the deal.  This indeed was the case, but in early 1989, a group of local residents and business owners angry about the turnback of the route went to then Governor Joe Frank Harris asking him to restore the 13 mile roadway.  Though SR 325 was restored, the southernmost 1.5 miles of the route extending to Old US 76 were not restored.  To read more about GA 325, click here.

Southern Terminus: US 76/SR 2/515 between Blairsville and Morganton

Note the street name "Nottely Dam Road".  When SR 325 was turned back breifly in 1988-89, the road was named "Nottely Dam Road" in place of decommissioned SR 325, a name that remains today.  The road to the right is Old SR 325, continuing 1.5 miles to Old US 76/SR 2 (Blue Ridge Highway).  Union County street name signs had a strange "X" on them until recently.

This is the first northbound reassurance shield.  The LGS beyond this sign is not shown.
