Georgia State Route 17
Back to Georgia Highway Ends
Banner Routes (except Business): GA 17 Alt (Toccoa), GA 17 Connector, GA 17 By-Pass (Millen)

As a route of such great significance to eastern Georgia that it could almost be a US highway in places, SR 17 exists in conjunction with a much famed US highway that carries the same number in the same state.  Indeed, the Georgia Legislature also knows the importance of SR 17 as they fully plan to four-lane the entire route from Millen to Toccoa as a GRIP project.

Southern Terminus: I-16 south of Bloomingdale

This "End" signage is just beyond the interchange.  The guardrail in the foreground is part of the eastbound on ramp.  Also note that the land is built up here for the I-16 interchange, thus the lengthy view from here.  The road ahead continues as Bloomingdale Road, a county road.

Georgia State Route 17 Alt (Toccoa)

Part of SR 17 until 1991, all of former SR 17 became SR 17 Alt.  This also later included SR 17 Connector in Toccoa, which connected SR 184 and US 123/SR 365.  This part of SR 17 passes by the site and crosses the creek of Toccoa Falls, one of Georgia's most spectacular and, sadly, the location of a deadly dam break in 1977.  The route would be a Business route except that it follows all of Old SR 17 between Clarkesville and Toccoa and a very rural section west of Toccoa.

Southern Terminus: SR 17 southeast of Toccoa

Georgia State Route 17 Connector

Originally SR 16 Connector, this rural route in northern Glascock County became SR 17 Connector when SR 16 was truncated to Warrenton sometime around 1990.

Georgia State Route 17 By-Pass (Millen)

This route makes a square around Millen to the southwest.  This route most likely exists mainly as a truck route.

Western Terminus: Intersection of SR 17 and SR 67 in Millen

Eastern Terminus: SR 17 south of Millen
