Once extending through Fort Stewart along a dirt road, it seems
that SR 129 has been cut away from the Army base for quite awhile. A
road connecting the county seats of Evans and Candler Counties, SR 129 continues
south of Claxton as a veritable road to nowhere. Nevertheless, all
roads to nowhere make for interesting highway endings.

Old GA 129 continues straight ahead dead-ending at Fort Stewart
Looking north on Old SR 250. In SE GA, it is not uncommon for the
final route signage for side and cross highways to be placed beyond the actual
intersection.
Looking opposite the above photo. Note the "County Maintained" plaque
mounted diagonal on top of the GA 129 marker. "County Maintained" plaques
seem to be quite common on rural highways turned back or on county roads
that appear to have been maintained by the state. Most are quite old,
however, and they are becoming increasingly rare.

Northern Terminus: SR
46 in Metter
The sign above the markers in Metter is rare in Georgia: a combination LGS.
Notice that almost no seperation exists between "Statesboro" and "20".
This is one of the old-style LGS that were hand made and quickly bleached
out.
