Honeypots

Problems & Issues

This site was created to introduce the reader to honeypots, their uses, how they work, and some of the issues surrounding them to track and sometimes catch hackers. This site will also discuss the types, how they differ and what issues they may have.

Honeypots are designed to lure hackers into an imitation  network where they can be studied.  Honeypots can also be sometimes used as evidence in a court of law to prosecute a hacker.  Honeypots can used as a distraction to hackers to keep them from real networks where they could potentially cause havoc.  But again the primary value of honeypots is to collect information about hackers:  how and why they get into systems and what methods they use to infiltrate systems.  This data can then often used to create protective barriers to protect real networks and systems.

Some feel honeypots should be considered entrapment, but we agree with others in the computer industry that they are not.  We prove our point later in this site.

We hope you find this site interesting and eye opening.

Thank you for your time.
