Universities
Offering Online Classes
There are several different Universities that are now
offering degree programs online. Online classes offered by these universities
are offered in a variety of formats and will differ in quality, cost, programs
offered and admission requirements. The basic structure of online classes will
allow everything to be completed online without having to commute to a campus.
All test, quizzes, course material, and projects are posted online for the
student to use at their convenience. It also avoids the possibility of time
conflicts that exist when two courses are offered at the same time. Among the
top Universities competing by offering online degrees are
Capella
University,
University of
Phoenix, and
Kaplan
College.
Capella
University
offers online degree programs in many different fields. They offer a variety of
programs in the school of technology, Psychology, Business, Education, and
Human Services. Capella’s website contains all the
information you need to learn about how their online classes work. According to the site, “Courses at
Capella
University
are much like familiar, classroom-based courses. Learning takes place through a
blend of assigned readings, class discussion, faculty feedback, group projects,
case studies, research and writing assignments”(www.capella.edu). The cost of
admission at Capella varies depending on what type of
degree you are trying to earn. There is a course demo, a short movie clip and
several other links that provide more insight into Capella’s
online degrees. For more information on Capella’s
courses online click the link to be directed to their website at Capella University .
University
of Phoenix
not only offers online classes, but also offers nights and weekend classes on
campus. There are over 130 locations
around the United States.
University
of Phoenix
offers more degrees than Capella
University.
The degrees available include a Bachelors degree in business, criminal justice,
human services, information technology, management and nursing. They also have a long list of master degree
programs including business administration, computer information systems, and
nursing. The university’s website did not contain much information about how
their online classes were structured.
The site did say that, “All of our online degree programs have been
developed in cooperation with business and industry leaders,
which means you'll learn only the most current business methods and
practices. Classes are designed to be taken in sequence, one at a time, with
each class lasting between five and six weeks”(www.phoenix.edu). The tuition and fees were more
straightforward than the tuition and fees listed on Capella’s
website. The tuition fees for undergraduate tuition is
$422 per credit hour, for graduate it is $518 per credit hour, and for a
doctorate degree it is $595 per credit hour (www.phoenix.edu). For additional information or to request for additional information

Lastly,
Kaplan
College
is another university offering degrees online. Kaplan’s
programs include arts and science, business, criminal justice, information
technology, paralegal studies and continuing education courses. However, the only master’s degree program
offered is a degree in law. To get a feel about how their online classes work
there is a class demo provided on their website. According to their site, their classes
include online quizzes, message boards, web field trips, and seminars all done
online (www.kaplancollege.edu). Kaplan’s
tuition and fees were the least expensive compared with Capella
and the University
of Phoenix. Tuition per credit hour is only $235 for an
undergraduate degree (www.kaplancollege.edu). Additional information can be
found at their website at www.kaplancollege.edu.
