BB 150, Inc. is an accounting firm for small businesses.  Most small business owners have limited resources and their employees have to wear several hats to stay in the market.  For services other than Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable, they could feel that accounting is only government required additional works that do not generate any profit.  Furthermore, small businesses have greater turnovers than big enterprises because of lack of fringe benefits that they could offer to the employees.  Therefore, choosing a dependable accounting firm is one of the many decisions that small business owners must make and it is often one of the most important.  BB 150, Inc. focuses on providing catered accounting services for the small businesses.  Our clients may elect their needed services from our offer:  Bookkeeping, Payroll Tax and Sales Tax Returns, Financial Statements and Income Tax Returns.  Also, our services include training our clients' newly hired bookkeepers and/or assistant accountants.    

In March 2004, co-founders, Chonticia Jackson and Kay Park, launched BB 150 when they had only twenty accounts and three part-time employees.  Within one year, they added nearly one hundred fifty accounts and forty employees. Obviously, BB 150 faces joyous growing pains and it is essential to adopt an advanced and powerful server in order to provide better services for their current and future accounts.  Therefore,  Microsoft Exchange would be a good product because Microsoft is the worldwide leader in software, services and Internet technologies for personal and business computing.

    IT Problem

Currently, BB 150, Inc. uses an e-mail system hosted by an ISP and communicates with its customers primarily through e-mail attachments. The  attachment is only appropriate for for one or two pages.  It is not unusual for communications through e-mail to cause servers to crash or suddenly stop processing mail.  Hence, Facsimile or the Postal Service is better for more than two pages of documents.  Therefore, BB 150 intends to have a better server for its rapid growing electronic communications. 

BB 150 employees spend a substantial amount of time providing information requested by customers.  More than twenty percent of  all requests  are for immediate decisions; for accuracy, they need to have today's financial status, instead of the previous month.  For that reason, BB 150 also intends to provide a way for its customers to have abilities to access accounts from their offices with external connectors.  They could verify and monitor their financial activities from Payroll to Financial Statements.  Also, this will save BB 150 a tremendous amount of time and money.  

   IT Solution

Drawbacks:  Competitors claim that Microsoft product consumers would have several disadvantages.  Among those, the major disadvantage is "treat by hackers."  We researched thoroughly about Microsoft security protection mode.  Our findings of Security enhancements offered by Exchange 2003 include Internet Protocol security (IPSec) support for front-end and back-end clusters, signed Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) requests to Active Directory, front-end and back-end Kerberos authentication, Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 security and dedicated application mode, restriction of distribution lists to authenticated users, real-time Safe and Block lists, inbound recipient filtering, attachment blocking Microsoft Office Outlook Web Access, public folders permissions improvements for unknown users, and restricted submissions improvements.

Our researchers found that Exchange 2003 delivers a reliable scalable, and manageable infrastructure and collaboration.   Exchange 2003 has powerful collaboration features that all work groups to increase productivity by sharing calendaring, address books messages and files.  Also, Exchange 2003 supports management and tracking tools so the e-mail system is operating efficiently.  Furthermore, the External Connector (EC) License will give BB 150 not only cost efficiency, but also provide unlimited accessibilities to its customers.
