The Solution |
The solution is honey pots. Home users and small business
users should use low interaction honeypots, such as Honeyd.
Corporations should use high interaction honeypots or honeynets.
Honeynets are useful because they will offer better protection. You should also make sure that your honeypot is maintained and updated regularly. It should be placed behind a firewall. As long as these guidelines are followed correctly, this solution should work to stop hackers from entering our information systems. |

The Problem |
As anyone can hear from the evening news, information is being
stolen from home users as well as corporations by unwanted
intruders. Home users have been the victims of credit card number
theft as well as identity theft. Corporations have had financial
information stolen and viruses released into their networks. There have been intrusion protection and detection systems put into these networks, but there are problems associated with these systems causing more wasted time than good.. The intrusion detection systems will trigger an alarm to almost any compromise to the perimeter. Intrusion protection systems are a little more sophisticated than than the detection system because they can actually block attacks to the network instead of just detecting them. However, both systems utilize the same detection techniques. |
