Research:
SGEMS,
Inc. has been given a task to research a new technology known as Podcasting.
Even though this technology didn’t really take effect until 2004, the idea of
podcasting was around several years prior. Today, with so many people owning,
or having access to computers, the Internet, iPods, and MP3 players, podcasting
technology has really erupted.
We
are going to be looking at several areas in which podcasting
is used, beginning with an introduction to podcasting. In this
introduction we will describe what podcasting is, what it can do, how to create a podcast, and how much podcasting is used
today. Once an understanding is established we will go into the history of
podcasting. Next we will describe podcasting technology. This will include how
podcasting is used in education and business. We will also introduce some
environmental issue with podcasting. Finally, SGEMS, Inc. will give some
recommendations about podcasting that will hopefully answer any question you may
have about this new technology.
Findings:
Podcasts, which stands
for "Personal On Demand broadCast",
are syndicated information that usually consists of audio and/or video
combinations that can be downloaded.
The information is made available for download by what is known as “web
syndication.” This makes web feeds available from a website to provide people
with a summary of the website's recently added content like news, stories, or
advertisements. Some examples of podcasts are songs downloaded from iTunes,
videos downloaded to your computer, and messages from the boss downloaded hours
before on an MP3 player.
A
user will use an “aggregator” or web application to download a podcast, like Limewire or iTunes in order to receive podcasts to watch or
listen to as they please. Then using that application, they can add their own
information, audio or video, and offer it to others with the same application. Podcasting
is becoming an increasingly popular technology for businesses to relay
information in a creative way to their employees. Podcasting in education can be very helpful for
students and teachers. Teachers record their lectures and post them in a
podcast where students can download and listen to them. Students believe that
using podcasts have a positive impact on their grades, however studies are
inconclusive.
About our Company:
SGEMS, Inc., our newly
established consulting company has specialized in preparing highly informative
reports for companies interested in new and upcoming technology. Our research focuses on how this technology is used
in business and education. We also look at the consumer, and determine how best

issue today, we also look into the effects of this new technology. Finally, when our company has researched
every possible aspect, we will make recommendations based on this information
and develop a presentation for our client.
Even
though SGEMS, Inc. is a young consulting company we have done research for
companies such as Apple, Microsoft, Lucky Goldstar,
Honeywell, Panasonic, and Samsung. Each of these companies continues to develop
innovative technology that is used worldwide. Because they know that SGEMS,
Inc. will give them a thorough and honest evaluation of their product each of
these companies keeps requesting our services.
