         Podcasting  in Business and Education

Podcasting is a popular way to spread audio and video files across the internet. Dictionary.com defines podcasting as the Web-based broadcast of music which works with software that automatically detects new files and is accessed by subscription. This basically means that people download music, audio, or video files across the internet and view them at a later date on one of many media capturing devises.

The main use of podcasting is to get audio or video files across the internet and store them on a mobile media storage devise. The podcasts can be set to automatically download when new files or content is available and then are stored until the user wants to view the content. This leaves a large sum control to the user and gives them the convince of viewing the material at their leisure.

In general, podcasting has been used for personal entertainment. With the ability to download television shows, radio shows, and even sporting events, the entertainment value is without question. This gives the user complete control of what they want to watch and when they want to watch it.

Podcasting is becoming a more powerful tool in areas other than personal entertainment. Many businesses are using it to record a meeting and then sending it out to the employees. This saves travel time, travel costs, the inconvenience of actually going to a meeting and the time taken away from work to actually hold a meeting. Companies could instead just send out a podcast of a meeting and tell their employees to listen to it on the way into work.

Education is another area in which podcasting is gaining popularity. Podcasting would allow teachers to record their lectures and students could listen to them before class and be ready work the second they get into class. Also, this can be used to hear or see a lesson if a class is missed. This will save numerous hours of confusion and emails about what happened during a class.

Podcasting is an ever evolving part of today’s society. It will grow more powerful as the internet does and it is likely to become a staple of the internet on par with Myspace and Facebook though podcasting will have a far greater impact on the world of education and business than the for mentioned sites.
