IMAP
|
Allows
for storing emails on the server to be accessed from multiple locations
and computers. It also allows for storing emails in folders and
sub folders to organizing emails in a better fashion. IMAP requires
more bandwidth when accessing and will be slower with a low bandwidth
connection like dialup if you keep alot of emails since your email
client has to keep an ongoing connection to the server when you
are reading your emails. |

|
| |
POP3 |
Copies
all your emails down to your local computer for faster access. However
since you have downloaded your messages you will not be able to
access the emails from several locations. It is bandwidth intensive
while downloading emails thereafter you are operating from your
local machine without interaction with the server until it is time
to send your emails. POP3 does not support folders in your account
which forces you to store all your email in the inbox. If you want
to be able to access your emails from multiple locations you need
to check "Store emails on server" option in your email
client configuration. |
